I was born in Prince George, grew up in Langley, and have travelled this province end to end. From Vancouver Island to Powell River, up through the Kootenays, and north to Dawson Creek. BC is where I’m from, and for the last several years it’s where most of my bookkeeping clients have been, too. I’m Deanna Christensen, an Advanced Certified QuickBooks Online ProAdvisor with nearly two decades of combined operational and bookkeeping experience. I now live in Atlantic Canada, but BC is where I built my career. Over fifteen years working in business in and around Vancouver, and the years since working with BC companies remotely. I know your tax landscape, your pace, and what good bookkeeping looks like on the West Coast because I’ve lived it.

BC’s two sales taxes, kept straight

In BC, you’re managing two separate sales taxes — 5% GST federally and 7% PST provincially. Each with its own filing and its own rules about what’s taxable. It trips up a lot of business owners, and frankly a lot of bookkeepers. I have the in depth experience to keep both straight so nothing slips and nothing gets double-counted.

The time difference is on your side

I’m always ahead of BC now which sure took some getting used to at first. Now I find that for companies I work with on the West Coast it’s a win-win advantage. I may not be a morning person, but your time zone means your reports, your answers, and your month-ends are often done and waiting before you’ve even poured your first coffee.
